The Polk County Sheriff's Office is pleased to offer the R U OK? call reassurance program. It is designed for older adults, disabled persons, shut-ins who live alone, or anyone in Polk County who needs to be checked on daily.
R U OK is a computerized telephone calling system. The system calls each enrolled subscriber at the same time each day of the week. Answering the call when the subscriber answers the phone at the specified time, he or she will hear a prerecorded message, and then press a certain button to respond.
If the subscriber fails to answer the phone after three attempts, the line is continually busy, or an answering machine answers, the computer will automatically notify the Sheriff's Office. There is no charge of any kind for this program.
This is a public service to the citizens of Polk County. It is also essential to understand that the R U OK program is not intended to take the place of any medical alert service which a person may now be using.
Everyone who wishes to subscribe to the R U OK program will be asked to fill out a short information form (download below) with medical and other information that may be needed in an emergency. This information will be completely confidential and secured at the Sheriff's Office if the need for it should arise.
