RABIES CLINICS
Polk County Animal Control hosts two low cost rabies clinics each year in April and October in various locations in the county. The clinics include all vaccines for dogs, cats, ferrets, and horses, microchipping, low cost vouchers for spay and neuter through the Foothills Humane Society.

Polk County Animal Control is a public service that enforces county animal control ordinances (listed below) and North Carolina State Laws pertaining to domesticated animals to ensure public safety and the welfare of animals.
Duties include:
-Pick up or trap and deliver to Foothills Humane Society any stray or animals at large (an animal is at large if the animal is at a location off of the real property of the owner or keeper of the animal and not under control of the owner or keeper).
-Enforce county ordinances and North Carolina State Laws that pertain to rabies control.
-Enforce the keeping of any animal(s) in such a manner as to constitute a public nuisance.
-Investigate animal bites.
-Protect animals from abuse and neglect. Assist animal cruelty investigators.
-Educate and assist the public on the importance of spaying and neutering.
-Educate and assist the public on proper care for animals.
Duties DO NOT include:
-Wildlife control complaints.
-Removing of deceased animals from the roadways or properties.
If you received an ordinance citation, the owner of the animal or other aggrieved person may appeal the determination by filing a written objection and attaching any supporting documents or statements within ten (10) days. Upon timely receipt of an appeal, all appeals will be processed. All appeals should be delivered or mailed to: Polk County Animal Control Board/Polk County Health Director c/o Polk County Animal Control Supervisor 164 Government Complex Drive, Columbus NC 28722.
