Staff Attorney John “JJ” Sauvé brings over a decade of public service and criminal justice experience to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. JJ began his public service career as Tryon Fire Department’s first Junior Firefighter and continued to volunteer as a Firefighter and EMT in the area until leaving to attend law school in Charlotte In 2008 JJ joined the Tryon Police Department where he served as a Reserve Police Officer, Police Officer, Field Training Officer (FTO), and Corporal until 2012 when he joined the Rutherfordton Police Department where he served as a Police Officer and Corporal until leaving for law school.
During law school JJ interned with the 29-B Public Defender’s Office, and the United States Marshals Service- Western District of North Carolina and served as a Reserve Detective with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office assisting with criminal investigations, narcotics investigations, and training for the Sheriff’s Office. JJ was eventually offered an Assistant District Attorney position in District 42 (formerly District 29-B) during his final year of law school and served as Polk County’s first Resident Assistant District Attorney until 2019 when he opened his own general law practice serving all of western North Carolina. In October of 2019 JJ had the honor of accepting the Staff Attorney position with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, rejoining many of his former colleagues and being given the opportunity to continue serving the citizens of Polk County.
As Staff Attorney, JJ advises the Sheriff, Chief Deputy, and division heads on all legal and operational matters. JJ works hand-in-hand daily with our division heads to ensure that the citizens of Polk County receive the most efficient and effective law enforcement services and protection possible. JJ also assists with all types of criminal investigations and training and brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the matters he handles. One of JJ’s most important duties is working closely with our partner agencies in Western North Carolina, especially the District Attorney’s Office and the United States Attorney’s Office to ensure that criminal matters originating in or tied to Polk County are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. On top of his legal and operational duties JJ also serves as the Public Information Officer (P.I.O.) for the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
